This week in Tāwhirimātea, we have been getting to know each other by a Spider web – Urmi starts with the wool and throws it to some random person. our name and something about your self.

Someone new I have met is Chicago.

The RISE value I have shown this week is resilience – I was nervous to come back to school but after I saw the classroom I wasn’t scared anymore. 

Three of the rules in Tāwhirimātea are:

1.no running

2.no swearing

3.no playing tag

I am looking forward to winter sports and swimming and camp.

On Monday I made a poster and me and my friends made one to and it was very hard

 Today we did protest art based on stuff we were trying to protect here’s the instructions first we did practising block writing. Next we did we got a piece of canvas paper and did the real writing. Then we used paint to fill the letters. After you paint your letters you paint your background. After your background you wait for it to dry then when it dries you do vivid

For Monday mashup we played Ki-o Rahi. We learnt about the purakau (narrative) of the game and then had a go. I found it easy because people were blocking the bin. I showed Resilience  because I tried to rip James but couldn’t. I showed sportsmanship by passing to my teammates  after I got ripped. I recommend Ki-o Rahi because it’s fun.

Today I did landscaping on google drawings me and other people did mountains. With a cougar and a mountain goat they were both on an angle to get them on the spot I chose the spots I chose was both were on each. each had a different size.

On Thursday 22nd of August I went on a day trip at Rāpaki Marae. When we arrived we were formally welcomed in a ceremony called a pōwhiri.

Matua Issac talked about the special artworks, carvings and tukutuku panels in the wharenui. He also told us about how to be respectful of marae tikanga, like not wearing shoes or taking food into the wharenui. 

We did lots of activities such as walking to the beach, weaving, drawing the ancestors on the pou, making rākau and singing waiata. 

My favourite part of the marae trip was dodgeball because it was heaps of fun.

The RISE value I showed the most was success for making te Rakau because I had to hurry when there was one more minute left. 

I would like to go and stay at the marae because it looked super duper fun.

For Monday mashup we explored using magnets.We had a science kit which included composes string paper clips Play dough needle tiny magnets big magnets medium magnets.In my group were Beau Travis Oliver.We discovered not all magnets stick to each other and big magnets can pick up a chair.
